Seasonal Admonition
Beware of October,
The tall, the copper-skinned,
Riding bareback into town
On his wild cayuse, the wind.
A yellow quill in ebony braids,
Though it must be allowed,
The lad's as photogenic
As is arrogantly proud.
Still, don't, at bonfire glances,
Let cold prudence melt.
Lest he gallop out of town,
A trophy at his belt.
A dangling prize that's heart-shaped,
To flaunt in some teepee.
Remember, October is an aborigine
