Elk are not stopped by floods!
Weather is definitely our news this winter! Jerry, with three teacher assisting him, dug a trench that saved an elementary school. He came home and looked in the garage, happy to see it was dry. But when he came into the house he was met with a "swish" under his feet. The furnace room, under-stair storage, basement landing and my sewing room were all flooded. Luckily most of the items were in Rubbermaid containers. Only some craft magazines and some really nice scrapbooking books were wet. An old truck full of our "courting" letters were terribly musty. Our wheat bags that were on the floor were wet. But their real problem was that the bags and inner linings are disintegrating! That needs addressing.
Our home teacher, wonderful Keith Davis, came over and helped Jerry suck up water for over three hours. The next day Jerry took up the carpeting, borrowed an ozone machine from CFRC in Rainier, and bought new fans to dry out the basement, which will have to continue for about 4 more days.
He did find mold under our stairwell. Tomorrow the bottom half of the stairs is being removed. We went to Freddie's yesterday and bought some more storage boxes to keep things safe.
Now the good news: we had been talking the last few weeks about moving my sewing room into the larger room downstairs. It will become "Joan's Studio." :-) It has a wood stove in it, cupboards for storage, and room for both work tables to be totally expanded. There is lots of light from windows and fixtures. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea!
The room I am moving out of will become a bedroom again, but I don't think that we will have much in it. We do know that it will have a vinyl floating floor that looks like large plank wood.
We were lucky compared to some! You may want to look at the photo gallery on tdn.com. The pictures here are from that site.

YUCK! They closed the freeway near Fife, south of us and the pass was also closed due to snow at the time so we joked that we couldn't get out of Seattle for a day or so. Drizzle all day today. We had a district info meeting at our school tonight about the budget crunch. Hoping I have a job next year but time will tell. The notices go out May15 for the diaspora. Benita
Eww. Gross! Sorry you had to deal with all that flooding.
Sorry we couldn't have you guys up this weekend. We've been trying to unpack at night after Thad gets home from work, so we haven't gotten everything done yet which kindof drives me crazy, so you wouldn't want to be around me anyway. :) We've still got Jenna and Lydia's room, the guest bedroom, and some linen closets and filing to go, so hopefully we'll be done soon. As far as getting together goes, would you guys be done cleaning up in 2 weeks if we came up there, or would it be better for you to come here? I know Grandma was bummed about us not coming up for Christmas, so I thought that would be fun to see her, but am not sure if you guys feel up to having us if your basement is flooded, so let me know what you think. Thanks!
Kimberly
