January 4, 2009

Wow, my first entry of the new year. It has been a busy time, a happy time, and a sad time. We have enjoyed our snow. Correction: We are enjoying snow, again. It is snowing madly and the wind is whistling around our house. Today I saw a deer bouncing down the snowy hill across the street from us, and as Jerry and I stood to watch, suddenly another bounced down the hill. Almost immediately they ran up the hill, and bounced down again. That was a little passe for them, so they ran across the hill and jumped the neighbor's chain-link fence, back and forth, over and over. It was great fun to watch. We were not the only audience. Watching them was a fawn that was born earlier this year. It made our day! The roads were all icy this AM and we did not make it to church.

Our sad time involved losing a cousin of 84 years old that was more like a sister to my mother. It was a shock as she seemed healthier than my mother. But I guess she was not taking her antibiotics and developed a systemic infection. My mother and us know that we shall see her again, whole and well.

We and Mother hung out at the ER on New Year's Day. Despite her O2, she could not breath well, chest pain, and upset stomach. We finally hauled her in kicking and screaming...well, if she had enough strength to do that! It is the aortic stenosis worsening. The doctors juggled her medicine a little, but they cannot do much for her except make her comfy. She is home now and doing her best, but she is weakening lots. However, she is still spunky! Tomorrow, if the weather really warms up, we are both taking her to a cardiologist in Portland.
