Jerry did as the county suggested and filed a report on our flooding. Last Sunday a FEMA storm trooper came to access the damage. She was to stay 45 minutes, but stayed about 90 minutes. By the third we actually had a small grant of $600 deposited in Jerry's account. This is the first time in our lives the government has ever given us something. Seems weird.
I gave up my Subaru for 3 days to have its cosmetic surgery done. It looks really nice. I asked Enterprise for an all-wheel drive, and they upgraded me to an Equinox. It drove like a go-cart truck. But there were some new features that my 9 year old car doesn't have. I think the Subaru needs a brake job. It seems really mushy.
Sad, sad news at the school district. All elementary librarians are gone at the end of the year. Two of them do not have enough years to go back to the classroom. All secondary librarians are losing their assistants. There are lots of other cuts, but librarians and technology are really taking a hit: 5 techs and the tech dept head---gone. 8 librarians---gone. 12 assistants---gone. Rumor has it that our assistants are going to be hired to run the elementary libraries on half days for book checkouts. I have had two persons in their union tell me this, but not my assistant.
Our assistant principal sat down with both HS librarians to determine our prep times and schedule. She at least has an idea of what we are facing. This is why the state's Task Force on Basic Education's report states that librarians should be core teachers. The school board has no idea about what we do.
Oh, here is the irony... The superintendent has invited me and my Library Club co-presidents to the board meeting tomorrow night to brag up my Library Club and the $500 grant they are receiving to buy more books for the 13RW: Pass It On! campaign. The idea is to give away the book to friends so more can read it before the author comes on April 27th. We have already bought 145, and want to give away more. It is a good thing!
My mother had a meeting with the palliative care nurse and community health and hospice social worker last Tuesday. She pinned down her doctor last Monday, insisting to know how much time she had. So he told her that 2 doctors (actually three) feel she has around 6 months, but he thinks she has more. One thing for sure, having a palliative care nurse checking in on her will help her avoid colds growing into pneumonia. Her oxygen is free through hospice. So the other oxygen supplier is being phased out. They described both services and, drop my jaw, she opted for hospice. This is the woman who called me at school screaming at me about what I am up to! I think she likes all the services that are paid for by medicare.
Today I gave a talk on listening to the spirit of the Holy Ghost, and keeping the commandments better by trying to always follow its advice. I got lots of compliments on it. I usually do not, so that was appreciated.
Oh, librarians RULE!!! Check out my avatar...

You are amazing! What a topic to choose as your talk this morning. What I appreciate is that you ponder what you say and then say it with such wisdom. Thank you for you. BTW. . .you live longer if you are an obstinate geriatric. :) Something for us to aspire to.
That is really sad about the librarians. I feel like that's coming here too.
Wow, money from the government.
I got a grant! Okay, it's only 100.00 but it's my first grant and I'm very happy. I got some software for 5-6 grade I
wanted and my kids are using it.
Hospice was so good for my dad. I just was looking at the polaroids we took in his final months.
We left a polaroid camera with him at where he was at Orchard House and he could take pictures or visitors could.
After he passed away, we divided up all the pictures on his bulletin board and I notice that the one with MaryAnn, his hospice person, had him smiling and I
remembered him asking me to take the picture of them both. She was great. Also a good one with his bishop.
I had to find a picture for R.S. Tuesday; they're putting up kid pictures of all of us. Somehow I ended up in a singing group for the night-
really weird, nobody asks me to sing and I'm not sure how it all happened, but I hope they're not sorry.
They got another person to take a part in the skit today and she protested that she didn't sing when we practiced after church, and I told her, 'That's not going to save you, trust me."
It's also the night of my pro-cert class so I'm going to be running that night. Benita
