Zonkers! A Month Gone By!

What a crazy closing of school! Actually I am meeting at 8AM with our new principal, Richie Reeves, with whom I worked 10 years at Monticello Middle School. If he is as good a principal as he was a teacher, we are in for a treat. My assistant was laid off, so it will be an interesting year coming up. We are memorizing the manta, "We can only do what we can do" and LEAVE to go home!

I took off for the beach with my cuz Benita on Tuesday and returned on Friday. We had another good school-year-diffuser together. If you want the link to our photos just let me know. The one beginning this post was our birthday lunch with my sister Janet, who turned ___ on June 22nd. :-)

I am still waiting on my knee. The MRI did show a small tear in the meniscus, and the L&I doctor's nurse finally referred me one week after that was to happen. The surgeon I am to see locally is very busy due to the others having issues using the wrong sized screws, giving patients infections, and just generally botching the job. I am thinking that I may not mind going to Kaiser knee men or women in Portland! I have been happy with all my referrals there. But I am walking better and still take the cane along in case the tear decides to float into a joint and reek some havoc.

Janene and her children are here for a bit over two weeks. The kids are having a time adjusting to the time. I think we should just keep them on their eating schedule, etc so they do okay. One son etched the rental car hood today and Janene was close to NOT paying for a college education! Oh dear!

Here is a cool shot of their newest family photos:

More are on the side bar.

You know that you are getting old when the most pressing news is YOUR BODY. I just saw a 62 year old woman dancing and gyrating on "America Has Talent" that made me feel that I was definitely too young to have the retreading that I am going through! While at the beach I had the weirdest and largest quantity of floaters in my left eye, the eye always that has them. So I called yesterday for an appointment and they told me to call at 7 AM today for a cancellation. They put me in at 9 AM, but when I arrived I discovered that they double-booked emergencies (moi and someone else) and were running at least 40 minutes behind! So I told them that I could not stay due to my dental cleaning at 10 AM. Left, did that, all fine with a little retreading on an old filling next week, and went home to make lunch. While I was cooking I noticed a nasty smear on the stove top that did not disappear when I wiped it gone. And like the death-of-the-first-born fog, it advanced across my eye. In a second I knew that this was no ordinary floater! So I left asap for the eye doctor, and told them at check-in about the new development. I did have one answer: the bubbly floaters I had noticed in clumps last Thursday, were the dissipation of a large advance fog. So, I had the longest eye appointment of my life, with double dilation in the left eye compared to the right. She found a horseshoe shaped tear in the retina caused by the adhesion and movement of the vitreous that happens to many of us older people. See: Floaters. In no time Dr. Flinn came in for another look, and before I knew it I was scheduled for laser surgery this Thursday afternoon with Dr. Flinn! Dr. Berger mentioned how fortunate that I didn't have the morning appointment, that the noon development was important to catch right away. See, life works out. I had a blessing tonight from Jerry and our home teachers who "just happened" to stop by.

Poor Janene. She knew that I had the knee issue and Jerry had the ankle issue that could cause havoc with her vacation plans, but not eye problems! So, there you are! More to come after Thursday. There is no prep for me to do, and I have no information except that the procedure takes all of 15 minutes. The dilation and post-op bring the total time to about 2 hours. Crazy.

Speaking of crazy (as in funny) my nephew David just sent me this cute little pink scrapbook called "ten things I love about my grandma." We all made the appropriate versions for Mother's NINETIETH birthday. She is almost 93! I cracked up. I am going to make him present it when he comes back to see her. Speaking of Mother, her last oxygenation test was only 60% instead of 75% like the last time. Neither are good. Hospice will increase her dosage of oxygen.

Well, this was long! That is what happens when I wait so long to blog.
