When do I have time to work???

This has been a full week. Not that I am not usually busy/tired/frazzled, but sometimes a week just has far too much happening beyond the time-suckers I normally expect!

Let us begin with sophomores, 3 classes a day for four days. Add a bunch of classes coming in for booktalks, meetings for my PGO and about budgets and you have a geological dig on a desk.

Add to that after-school and night-time meetings each night. Oy veh! My mother thinks all I do is sit at a check-out counter and stamp books in and out all day.

Monday night we met with a geologist from GeoTech who the city hired to check out the cracks in the hill behind Barefoot Lane. It was an informative meeting with photos, charts, topography maps. The short story is that we are in no emminent danger from this incident. It is no Aldercrest, no matter what you hear on KGW sensationalized news coverage. It was fun to see the neighbors in one place. We do have things we need to be vigilant in doing: clean gutters, good drainage, watching for changes.

I had meetings Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Finally Friday came!!! I went home only a little late, ate, and we drove to the airport to pick up Janene and Ava for their weekend visit. It has been a blast. We have just laid around visiting, playing with the happiest baby on earth, talking to relatives, visiting Great-grandma, window-shopping, eating out for lunch, going to church, making cookies, playing Master Detective (which Janene tells me is a collector's item if it is not loved like ours is!).

Oh, one bad thing: We were turning left onto Pacific Way at Laurel Road when a car decided to turn left OFF of Laurel Road. I guess the eye doctor is right: I have good peripheral vision as I could see the black sporty car coming at me. I gunned it. And rather than being t-boned he scrapped us from the mud flap to the corner of the back bumper, leaving scraps and a hole. He lost his front license plate. I think it made the hole. This is the same sad bumper that just was made whole after the Labor Day rear-ending at the beach. We all seem to be okay, and the hitter, ____ __________, a doctor in town, said he will pay for the repairs. So we settled in the road. I think it helped that I recognized him. Jerry flipped out! He said I did everything wrong, that I should have called the police, we should have exchanged insurance info. So we called the police to ask what I should now do, and they told me since there was no hit-and-run, and we knew each other that I should come in Monday and fill out a report.

Tomorrow I return Janene and Ava to the airport, go to the police station, and get a bid on the car repair.

Gadzooks! I'm beginning to think the little car has an invisible target that only crazed drivers can see. I'm glad you are okay. I have spent the weekend being VERY quiet. I'm going crazy being VERY quiet. I finished two books (one VERY short) and new. Thrilled that you have gotten to enjoy a visit from the ones you love.

Sit at a counter and check out books.....I laughed at that. Do you also go 'shhhhhhh' to all the kids? I do remember those town librarians from my childhood and they watched you with the eye of a hawk! Actually, that's more than I've seen our librarian do Ha! She sends out e-mails asking for book titles to order. No ideas, no suggestions and nobody responds and then she sends out e-mails of disbelief that we didn't respond to her e-mails. I guess that's what they train them to do in the NBCT program..Supercilious and arrogant hounding. AND THAT IS ALL I'VE HEARD FROM HER ALL YEAR.

I hate any repairs that have to do with a car. I just resent even thinking about them. Such a pain. And it always seems to happen when Dan's out of town. Hope it's a quick fix. Dan's in India this week so our pilot light blew out...we think...on the furnace. We are so helpless without Dan. Luckily we aren't that cold, just very very cool. Maybe we're wrong about the furnace. Dan will be home tomorrow -Yea!
