ACL blues

I am so excited that Chris Crutcher is arriving on Sunday evening for his day at R. A. Long on Monday! Wish my knee were also.

About a week ago I bounced down the marble stairs at school to make a PA announcement, and recall thinking, "Hummm...that didn't feel too good." My right knee continued to hurt. On Thursday AM I felt one nasty pop that hurt to my toes and up toward the heavens! I took an Advil, wrapped my knee and headed off to school as I had lots to do, never mind a crotchety knee! It was so stiff after sitting for some desk work, that I told Carla I was going to walk around the hall a bit, then I went to the lab to help a research class. On my return, I stepped up into my perch (other librarians have actual offices) and the knee popped two, excruciating times. I could put no weight on it. Carla dashed for the wheelchair, I called KP to change my 4:10 to asap. She dodged me through the halls, stopping once for a bowling for RAL moment, and out to my car that she pulled around. Carla is a ROCK in an emergency! Just a side note: you find out how compassionate teens are when you are speeding through the hall on a wheelchair. They lose their cool mask, being genuinely concerned. Interesting wheelchair...no foot rests or armrests. Thank goodness Carla navigates them well.

I called Jerry and my stoic facade crumbled as I started blubbering at him. I was better driving over, but started again at KP. Talk about a crybaby. Hey! Talk about bad, bad timing. So much to do! The doctor said I had ligament injuries, never said the word "tear" which is important for surgeries, if needed. But of course I did online research and my symptoms exactly match an ALC tear. Not amused. I was told I could only go to school Monday if I behaved, whatever that means. I was told to "act my age." The gaul of these doctors!

So, here I am at home doing the RICE thing, feeling better except when I lower the leg. Our neighbors loaned me two canes: casual and formal and gave us a casserole. Jerry flew down to the school to get the Chris gift bag, Tami is coming to pick that up and take to the hotel so it is there to greet him. We still have the cookies to bake tomorrow, but Jerry will be here to help heft.

Oh, Jerry went to the doctor on Thursday (great day) for a post-op only to find out that he was having another, right now! AND another on July 2nd while our grandchildren are here. And another after that. The doctor finally told him that he had an amazing crop of hemorrhoids that need care one at a time. So our 2-week vacation with our grandchildren will be interesting....me with PT on a gamy knee and Jerry with...yeah.
