On Thursday I decided when a blue jay perches in my family room window, shivering and sobbing, that I better find something to put out for the birds. News of the free meal has spread through the neighborhood. We have chickadees, jays and towhees zooming in for the spread. I swear there was a towhee with roller skates serving Friday afternoon.
Anyway, the news obviously hit the Kitty News. This morning I was watching the birds eat and noticed a strange movement behind the brick planter. I tapped on the window and up shoots two smokey gray ears and feline eyes! Smokey, our neighbor's excellent mouser was casing the joint. Ah, the circle of life! She slithered around the planter and took up a position closer behind a chair, ready to pounce.
I didn't see her catch a bird, but her footprints were in the snow. Sorry birdies!
