Epi Experience

I had an epi. That's medical lingo, ya know! Jerry and I drove to Sunnyside Hospital in Claskamas and checked in an hour early. Our weather is really dicey, with lots of ice, snow, and looooooow temperatures. So I took a Christmas present I am working on and made some headway on it.

I was really surprised. No flapping-in-the-breeze gown, no fuss. I was taken into the prep room, had my BP and oxygenation taken, talked with the PA Brad Oliver, walked with him past Jerry who looked as confused as me. Then we went into a small radiology room where I only had to unzip the cords and have my shirt raised to midriff. I was swabbed down with the nasty orange soap that we all love. Then he pinpointed the L4-L5 disc area with the x-ray. The nurse assisted while he numbed the area...that stinged. He inserted the rounded needle to move the nerve sac over, took another picture to check the positioning. Inserted the next needle with the meds and took another picture to check the positioning again, and adjusted it a titch. Then he released the meds that tingled/warmed all the way down my leg! He let it recover a bit and shot in the rest. He said, "Good! We found the correct spot." They washed off the lovely soap, bandaided the wounds, and we walked back past Jerry who looked confused once again. Only about 15 minutes max had gone by. Oliver and I talked briefly, the nurse checked out the vitals again and talked with me to make sure I was lucid, and I walked out. Jerry looked confused again as they told us the post-op would be an hour. We were on the road by 3:30!

I am a little sore, and they all said to take it really easy for 3-4 days. I have tomorrow off. With the weather like it is, I may have Wednesday and Thursday off also. We are to have the worse snow storm and deep freeze in 5 years. I am bummed! Jessica was to fly in Wednesday and spend 5 days with us or Kimberly. It looks like it is off. I was so excited to see her. We are hoping that AA lets her defer her flight for a better time.

Well, I have sat long enough, going to go walk for a few minutes then lie down.

I am so glad you did so well. I did not know the weather was going to be worse. I’m going to have to prepare more. I need to go grocery shopping for Christopher and I, we have no food in the house and he just arrived home from college.

Take it easy, stay warm, listen to Christmas music and let Jerry wait on you J

Love you

Me, Marie

Wow, you made it sound downright pleasant....but I was cringing through the whole description anyway! A fast procedure though, with nice people to talk to throughout - how great is that. It's amazing what they can do with such accuracy.

You have even worse weather than we do. School was 2 hrs late here and again tomorrow. The ice is unremitting; not deep but immovable. The kids were soooo cold today; I let them in as soon as I arrived and they were grateful.

I didn't take any chances and had them making their holiday gifts immediately today; I even made a run to the store at noon just to make sure everyone made their cocoa cones and holiday soaps. The cones went home and tomorrow the soaps will go. It's really iffy this week with the weather.

I have a sub in the morning so that I can correct mock WASLs again with my team; I think the Lord knew that I couldn't do that again for three solid hours; now with late arrival it's just one-yes.Then collaboration again in the afternoon - always a joy. I noticed that there's a fire drill scheduled. There's no way kids are going out there without their coats unless I can see the blaze.

Wed and Thurs aren't looking good for complete days either..

SPU still says that they're having the Pro-Cert class from 4:45 to 7:00 in our library tomorrow, but I sincerely doubt it. It was a little tricky getting into my cul de sac at 5:00 tonight and many of those who attend the monthly meetings come from across the district. The district has cancelled all after- school functions.

Sorry to hear about Jessica. I know how you feel. It felt like we abandoned poor Brint at his graduation Saturday. Stay home and heal. The Christmas panic will catch up with us soon enough.
