Librarian FREAK-OUT!!!

I did enjoy the "Genealogy Book Camp" for my first day of ALA conference. The main speaker was excellent. I hesitate to mention her topic as it is probably a yawner to most of you. But she spoke on keeping excellent records of sources of your information found on ancestors. I even purchased her 600-page book on creating really cool genealogy source citations! Ooooooh!! Ahhhhhhhh!!!

On Saturday we descended on the exhibit hall in earnest. What a paradise! Authors signing books at all the book publisher booths, free advanced copies of new books, contests, demonstrations of gizmos we can only dream of owning. Sigh!

We attended the Margaret Edwards Awards luncheon as my IDOL (screams of hysteria!) Orson Scott Card was receiving a lifetime achievement award from YALSA and I wasn't going to miss it. Patti thought it sounded good. So we sit at this table with a teen and his dad only to find out that he was the webmaster of an online teen review group called flamingnet that Patti was referred to in her workshops.

So OSCard speaks and I dash up to talk with him. I met his wife first, who was a delightful woman. Then I told him how I was his frontline promoter as my students always ask if I write the Ender's Game series. Then I showed him my name tag. He died laughing and said that I should be on the payroll. He signed my book, and later that night I noticed that he wrote "to Joan Enders, the real Enders!"
